European allies have issued a united call for Ukraine’s inclusion in any peace negotiations with Russia, warning that agreements reached without Kyiv would be “dead decisions.”
In a joint statement, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Finland, and the European Commission stressed that “international borders must not be changed by force” and pledged continued diplomatic, military, and financial support for Ukraine. The message came ahead of Friday’s planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
While Trump has signaled openness to a trilateral summit including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the talks currently remain a Trump-Putin meeting, as initially requested by Moscow. Reports suggest the White House is exploring a deal that could see Russia retain Crimea and gain control of the Donbas region — an idea Zelensky has firmly rejected.
“Any decisions without Ukraine are also decisions against peace,” Zelensky said, vowing not to reward Russian aggression.
European leaders have voiced concern about being sidelined in negotiations that could affect the continent’s security. French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that Europe “must be part of the solution,” while Zelensky thanked allies for their unwavering support, insisting that a “reliable, lasting peace” is only possible with Ukraine at the table.
