The European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has held fresh talks with Iran, as international efforts to broker mediation in the escalating conflict have yet to yield concrete results.
According to officials, Kallas spoke by phone with Iran’s Foreign Minister amid growing tensions in the region, with discussions focusing on the ongoing hostilities and their wider implications, including threats to key infrastructure and global energy routes.
The outreach forms part of a broader diplomatic push by the EU, which has also engaged other regional and international actors in an attempt to de-escalate the crisis. However, despite these contacts, there has been no clear breakthrough or formal mediation framework emerging so far.
European officials have continued to stress the need for dialogue, warning that prolonged conflict and attacks on critical infrastructure could have far-reaching consequences for civilians and global stability.
The latest engagement underscores ongoing diplomatic activity behind the scenes, even as prospects for a negotiated settlement remain uncertain.
