Chad has announced plans to send approximately 800 police officers and gendarmes to Haiti to bolster the United Nations‑backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF) as Kenyan contingents begin a phased withdrawal. The Chadian personnel are expected to arrive by mid‑2026 and will undergo training with international partners before joining efforts to support Haitian authorities in countering powerful armed gangs that have destabilized the Caribbean nation. The expanded force aims to reach a full strength of around 5,500 personnel by October.
Senior Chadian officials said this deployment will help fill the gap left by the retreating Kenyan officers, who had been contributing to earlier multinational security efforts. The move follows broader international attempts to restore security in Haiti, where gang violence has surged, paralyzing major urban centres and compounding the country’s political challenges.
Chad’s commitment builds on its role in the evolving mission structure, succeeding the smaller Kenyan‑led Multinational Security Support operation and reflecting ongoing global cooperation to address Haiti’s security crisis.
