Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Dr. Adebayo Adelabu, along with key power sector stakeholders, recently wrapped up a three-day visit to Japan, fostering stronger energy ties between the two nations. Facilitated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the visit explored strategies to enhance Nigeria’s power infrastructure and grid reliability.
The delegation engaged in high-level talks with Japanese energy leaders and policymakers, studying Japan’s advanced electricity management systems, grid optimization techniques, and energy market operations. These insights are expected to inform reforms aimed at boosting Nigeria’s market efficiency and energy pricing.
Key meetings with Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and JICA leadership, opened doors for deeper collaboration and potential co-financing for projects like the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) initiative to expand rural electrification.
Facility visits to DAIKIN Solution Plaza and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) showcased energy-efficient technologies and advanced grid management solutions adaptable to Nigeria’s context. The visit set the stage for future technology transfer and investment, positioning Nigeria for long-term power sector transformation.
