President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima joined other worshippers at the National Eid Ground in Abuja on Sunday to mark Eid-El-Fitr, a significant festival for Muslims worldwide.
Also present were Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several ministers.
Eid-El-Fitr, known as the festival of breaking the fast, is a time for gratitude, charity, and unity. The celebration begins with Eid prayers at mosques and open grounds, followed by festive meals, gift exchanges, and moments of togetherness.
A key tradition of Eid is Zakat al-Fitr, a charitable donation aimed at helping the less privileged partake in the joy of the celebration. This act of giving reflects the values of compassion and solidarity emphasized during Ramadan.
While Eid customs differ across cultures—ranging from vibrant feasts in South Asia to colorful attire in Africa and warm gatherings in the Middle East—the festival’s core message remains the same: gratitude, unity, and kindness.
