The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to strengthen transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption. He stressed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has placed integrity at the heart of his administration’s governance agenda.
Speaking at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Roundtable on Strategic Integration of State Commissioners of Information in the Fight Against Corruption, held on Wednesday in Abuja, Idris praised the Commission for its innovative approach in involving state and local government stakeholders.
As Special Guest of Honour, the Minister described the roundtable theme, “Partnership for Strengthening Transparency and Accountability at State and Local Government Levels Through Strategic Communications,” as timely and relevant. According to him, information managers play a critical role in deepening public trust and ensuring accountability across all levels of governance.
“I am confident that at the end of the day, a solid partnership will be forged in our renewed commitment to the fight against corruption,” Idris remarked, while commending participants for their engagement.
Speaking on the broader policy direction, the Minister highlighted that anti-corruption remains one of the eight priority areas of the Tinubu administration. He noted that the President has reinforced the independence of key anti-graft agencies such as the ICPC and EFCC by ensuring non-interference in their operations.
Quoting the President’s stance, Idris declared, “President Tinubu has vowed that there will be no safe haven for corruption in Nigeria. His administration is also advancing far-reaching judicial reforms to curb unnecessary delays in corruption trials, ensuring justice is neither denied nor endlessly deferred.”
Furthermore, he urged State Commissioners of Information to leverage the Renewed Hope Agenda to communicate government policies effectively and to work beyond party lines in building national consensus against corruption.
He assured that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, through its agencies, is fully prepared to support nationwide outreach campaigns on transparency and accountability.
Declaring the roundtable open, Idris expressed optimism that the engagement would strengthen synergy among stakeholders and help consolidate Nigeria’s democratic values.
