Suspended Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has paid a dramatic visit to the Abuja residence of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, in a bid to seek forgiveness and mend their fractured relationship amid the escalating political crisis in Rivers State.
The meeting, which reportedly took place on Friday, April 18, followed Fubara’s recent discussions with President Bola Tinubu in London. During those talks, President Tinubu is said to have ordered a reconciliation with political leaders in the state as part of a broader effort to stabilize the situation, which led to the suspension of Fubara and several other elected officials. A source familiar with the meeting revealed that Fubara prostrated before Wike, clutched his legs, and addressed him as “My Oga” in a symbolic gesture of submission and apology. The meeting extended into the early hours of Saturday, April 19.
High-profile political figures, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba accompanied Fubara. One of the conditions reportedly laid out by Wike was for Fubara to return to Rivers State and publicly acknowledge the nature of their conflict to his supporters, particularly the elders in the state.
While the minister’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, confirmed that the meeting occurred, he declined to provide further details. The visit marks a significant moment in the ongoing political saga in Rivers, signaling potential movement toward a fragile truce—though the broader implications for state governance and stability remain to be seen.
