Afrobeats star Davido says he is stepping back from parts of his music schedule for about two months to help drive the re-election campaign of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a move that adds celebrity weight to the governor’s push for a second term. Davido made the announcement in Ede on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, where he was named chairman of the committee.
Speaking at the event, the singer, whose full name is David Adeleke, said his decision was not only based on family ties but also on his belief in the governor’s performance and his desire to contribute to the political process. He said he had “put my musical career on hold for two months” to work for Adeleke, stressing that the task ahead was important because, in his view, the governor’s job was not yet done.
Davido used the occasion to urge members of the youth committee to embark on door-to-door mobilisation across all local government areas, saying the campaign must take the governor’s message directly to residents at the grassroots. Reports from the event said the committee was structured to cover the state’s senatorial districts, federal constituencies, local governments and the Modakeke Area Office, underlining the campaign’s intention to build a broad youth-driven network ahead of the poll.
The mobilisation move is part of the early political activity ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, in which Adeleke will seek another term in office. Davido’s role as youth campaign chairman is likely to attract significant attention, given his popularity among young Nigerians and his longstanding public support for the Adeleke political family.
