President Bola Tinubu is set to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for what is being hailed as one of the world’s largest cotton and polyester processing factories under the Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative. The monumental project will be located at the Special Agro Processing Zone within the Gateway International Airport, Iperu/Ilisan, Ogun State, and is scheduled to begin between May and June this year. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the initiative while receiving retired Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, and members of the Iperu Development Association at his office in Abeokuta.
“This will be the biggest cotton and polyester processing factory in the world,” Abiodun declared, adding that the facility will sit on 400 hectares of land and is projected to create 250,000 jobs daily. He emphasized the economic ripple effects the factory will have on Iperu, Remoland, Ijebu, and Ogun State at large.
He cited the area’s existing infrastructure, including the new airport, and its strategic central location as key factors in selecting the site. “It is like a whole new town,” the governor added, hinting at major infrastructural and economic developments to support the massive facility. In addition to the factory, the Nigerian Air Force has expressed interest in establishing a base in the town to ensure security for the airport and surrounding areas.
Governor Abiodun also took the opportunity to praise Mrs. Madein for her service, describing her as a trailblazer and pride of the state. In response, Madein thanked the governor for his support and for fostering a business-friendly environment that has drawn significant investments.
Community leaders, including the Chairman of the Iperu Development Association and Oba Lukman Salami, hailed the transformation of Iperu from a modest town into a thriving hub with modern facilities and improved living standards.
