The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to submit their membership registers as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
INEC said the decision was taken to give parties additional time to comply with regulatory requirements and ensure the accuracy of their records. The commission emphasised that updated registers are essential for verifying party structures and strengthening electoral transparency.
Officials noted that the extension does not alter the overall election timetable but is intended to facilitate a smoother administrative process. Political parties were urged to use the extra window to complete submissions in line with established guidelines.
The move comes amid broader efforts by INEC to enhance credibility and organisation ahead of the 2027 polls, with stakeholders expected to meet all revised deadlines to avoid sanctions.
