Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, visited Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Monday to express condolences over the killing of 16 travellers last Friday.
Arriving at the Kano State Government House at noon, Okpebholo was received by Governor Yusuf and other officials.
The victims, identified as hunters traveling from Port Harcourt to Kano for Eid-el-Fitr, were mistakenly killed by a vigilante group in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, who misidentified them as criminals.
During the visit, Okpebholo expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, emphasizing the strong ties between the Hausa community and the people of Edo. He assured Kano residents that justice would be served, revealing that 14 suspects had been arrested and transferred to Abuja for interrogation.
Governor Yusuf, in response, insisted that those responsible for the attack should be publicly paraded.
He also reaffirmed that Kano remains a peaceful state that accommodates people from all backgrounds and called for the immediate prosecution of those arrested to ensure justice is served.
Both governors stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence during their visit to Toronkawa village in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State.
The attack has been met with widespread condemnation, prompting President Bola Tinubu to order security agencies to track down and punish those responsible.
“The President, who expressed shock at the dastardly act on Thursday, directed Police and other security agencies to conduct swift and thorough investigations and punish the suspected culprits,” presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said in a statement on Friday.
