NNEWI, Nov. 8 — Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has described Saturday’s Anambra governorship election as peaceful with no tangible hitches.
Speaking after casting her ballot at 12:25 p.m. in Polling Unit 001, Ward 2 (St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Okpuno-Egbu, Umudim, Nnewi North LGA), the minister commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what she called a “satisfactory and commendable” outing.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who also monitored voting in several locations in Uruagu Ward 2, said logistics appeared to function smoothly and security presence was orderly. At Polling Unit 019 and nearby booths, teeming voters cheered the minister as she addressed reporters briefly.
Ahead of official results, she urged all candidates and supporters to respect the process and accept the outcome in good faith. “The ultimate goal is to elect a governor who will serve the interests of the Anambra people,” she said.
INEC earlier emphasized prompt poll openings and adherence to procedures, with collation expected to proceed in the presence of party agents and observers. (NAN)
