Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission have searched the Abuja home of former Nasir El-Rufai, marking a fresh development in the ongoing investigation into his time in office.
The search was confirmed by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, who posted on X: “The Aso Drive residence of Malam Nasir elrufai was today searched by the ICPC.”
The former Kaduna State governor is currently being held in Abuja as investigators examine financial matters linked to his administration between 2015 and 2023.
His lawyer, Ubong Akpan, criticised the operation, calling it “unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.” He did not say whether the legal team would challenge the search or confirm if anything was taken from the residence.
The development adds to the broader scrutiny of the former governor’s tenure, with both the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission examining alleged financial misconduct tied to his years in office.
Attempts to obtain an official comment from the ICPC on the search were unsuccessful.
