Abuja — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 24,897kg of skunk across forests in Edo and Osun States, with several arrests and additional highway seizures, according to spokesman Femi Babafemi.
Edo State (Oct 1 & 3):
- 10,897.35kg of skunk destroyed on 4.3589ha across four farms at Ugbodo forest, Ovia North East LGA (Fri, Oct 3).
- 223.5kg of processed cannabis and seeds recovered from the farms.
- Two suspects arrested: Michael Ayang (40) and Bernard “Don” New Year (47).
- Separate interception (Wed, Oct 1): Toyota Sienna KUJ 47 NW with 22 bags of skunk (244.5kg) at Igbanke, Orhionwon LGA; suspect Ineh Excellent Obindi (28) arrested.
Osun State (Thu, Oct 2):
- 14,000kg of skunk destroyed on 5.6ha at Owena/Ijesha forest reserve.
- 142kg recovered; suspects Chuimieze Shedrack (28), Sunday John (25), Solomon Okopko (27) arrested.
Highway & follow‑ups:
- Okene–Lokoja patrol: waybill parcel from Lagos → Abuja with 3.272kg “Loud” and a sachet of Colorado; follow‑up at Gwagwalada park led to arrest of Tobi Odubote (34).
- Abaji–Abuja Expressway (Thu, Oct 2): Ismail Abdurrahim (32) arrested with 25.5kg of skunk.
Demand‑reduction outreach (WADA):
- Sensitisation drives held at Government Day Secondary School, Hammawa Toungo (Adamawa); GDSS Kankara (Katsina); Day Secondary School, Unguwan Nasarawa, Kontagora (Niger); traders at Ladega Market, Ikorodu (Lagos); and an advocacy visit by NDLEA Imo Command to Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma in Owerri.
