Two students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, were kidnapped by gunmen on Tuesday night outside the university’s campus.
In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, a student of the institution, Ashar Lubem, disclosed that four students were actually abducted by the gunmen. He expressed the fear gripping the university community following the incident.
“Some gunmen kidnapped four students outside campus yesterday evening. We have yet to hear from them. Everyone is in a panic mood because of the incident,” Lubem said.
Confirming the development, the Benue Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, stated that the Command received information about two kidnapped students. She added that an investigation had been launched to uncover further details.
“We received the information yesterday evening that two students were kidnapped. We have commenced an investigation, and further details will be provided soon,” Anene said.
The situation has left students in a state of fear as they await updates on the abducted students’ whereabouts.
