The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for every child in Nigeria, as the nation marked this year’s Children’s Day celebrations.
In a statement commemorating the occasion, officials emphasised that every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and protection, regardless of background, gender, or socio-economic status. The government described children as the foundation of national development and pledged continued investment in their welfare.
Authorities noted that ongoing reforms in the education sector are aimed at improving learning outcomes, expanding access to basic schooling, and reducing the number of out-of-school children across the country. They also highlighted efforts to strengthen child protection systems and enhance social welfare programmes targeting vulnerable groups.
The Federal Government stressed that achieving inclusive development remains a central policy objective, adding that no child should be left behind in the pursuit of national progress. It reiterated its intention to collaborate with state governments, development partners, and civil society organisations to address barriers affecting children’s rights and wellbeing.
Officials also called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to play active roles in nurturing responsible and educated citizens, noting that government efforts alone are not sufficient to secure a better future for children.
As part of the celebration, events were held across the country featuring school activities, awareness campaigns, and public discussions on child welfare issues. These activities aimed to raise awareness about challenges facing children, including access to education, healthcare gaps, and protection from abuse and exploitation.
The government further pledged to sustain investments in programmes designed to support child development, including initiatives in nutrition, digital learning, and vocational training for young people.
Children’s Day in Nigeria is observed annually to recognise the importance of children in society and to promote policies that safeguard their rights and development. Officials reiterated that building a stronger nation depends on ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
