The Dangote Group has commenced a series of stakeholder and community engagement initiatives in preparation for the proposed Ogun Deep Seaport Project in southwestern Nigeria. The outreach is aimed at fostering cooperation with host communities and ensuring smooth implementation of the large-scale maritime infrastructure development.

The engagement exercise is taking place across key coastal and riverine communities in Ogun State, where the planned deep seaport is expected to significantly expand maritime trade capacity and industrial activity in the region. Officials involved in the project say early consultations are intended to address local concerns, build trust, and integrate community input into planning processes.

According to project representatives, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote inclusive development, particularly in areas that may be directly affected by construction activities, land use changes, and future port operations. Residents and community leaders have been encouraged to participate in discussions covering employment opportunities, environmental considerations, and infrastructure impact.

The Ogun Deep Seaport is projected to become a major logistics and trade hub, designed to ease congestion at existing ports and attract new investment into Nigeria’s maritime sector. It is also expected to support regional economic growth by improving export capacity and facilitating industrial expansion.

Stakeholders involved in the engagement process have emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous dialogue with local communities throughout the project lifecycle. They noted that sustained communication would help prevent misunderstandings and ensure that development benefits are shared more broadly.

The initiative aligns with wider national infrastructure goals in Nigeria, where public and private sector actors are increasingly collaborating on major transport and energy projects to drive economic diversification.

While construction timelines for the seaport project are still being finalized, early-stage consultations are seen as a critical step toward securing social license and ensuring long-term operational stability. Authorities and project developers say further engagement sessions will continue in the coming months as planning progresses.
