Cause of the Accident

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the vehicles was driving against traffic, leading to the head-on collision.

According to Ondo FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Samuel Ibitoye:

  • 28 victims were burnt beyond recognition.
  • Two initially survived but later died on the way to the hospital.

Eyewitness Account

An eyewitness described the horrific scene:
“We heard a loud crash and rushed to the scene. Both vehicles were already in flames, and passengers were struggling to escape.”

FRSC officers arrived quickly and transported the only two survivors to the hospital. Tragically, both later succumbed to their injuries.

FRSC Urges Caution

In response to the tragedy, the FRSC commander urged motorists to:
Adhere to traffic rules and regulations
Avoid driving against traffic (wrong-way driving)
Maintain caution, especially on highways

Road safety remains a critical issue in Nigeria, and authorities continue to emphasize the importance of responsible driving to prevent further loss of lives.
