R&B legend Angie Stone is at the center of a heartbreaking legal battle, as her family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit following a tragic accident in Alabama this past March.
According to the lawsuit, Stone survived the initial crash when the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van she was traveling in flipped over. However, while attempting to escape, she was tragically struck by a sugar-laden tractor-trailer. As a result, she was ejected from the van and pinned beneath it, ultimately losing her life. Investigators say she “consciously suffered” before she died.
Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of both the truck driver and manufacturer, citing that the driver was distracted and failed to brake, while the truck’s collision mitigation system malfunctioned and did not detect the disabled van.
Stone, aged 63 and returning home from a performance in Mobile, Alabama, had been a member of the pioneering female hip-hop group The Sequence before launching a successful solo career with hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” and “No More Rain (In This Cloud).” Her remarkable influence stretched over decades, earning her multiple Grammy nominations and a devoted following.
Her children—Diamond Stone and Michael D’Angelo Archer—are now seeking justice by suing the van and truck drivers, the trucking company CSRT, the van owner, and Daimler Truck North America, the truck’s manufacturer.
