The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a reminder to Nigerians seeking visas that visa application fees remain non-refundable, regardless of whether the application is approved or denied.
In a public advisory, the embassy explained that the visa fee paid by applicants covers the cost of processing the application, including interviews, security checks, and administrative work. As a result, the payment cannot be refunded under any circumstance, even if the visa request is unsuccessful.
The embassy stressed that applicants must ensure they meet the requirements before applying, as the fee is tied to the service of processing, not the outcome of the application.
This clarification comes as thousands of Nigerians continue to apply for US visas for travel, education, work, and tourism. Many applicants, especially students, often express frustration over losing money after visa denials.
The embassy’s reminder underscores the need for Nigerians to apply carefully and be well-prepared before making payments.
