Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Super Falcons of Nigeria delivered a dominant performance in a 2-0 victory over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in an international friendly played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade stole the spotlight with a clinical brace, scoring in the 26th minute via a penalty and adding a second goal in the 43rd minute, assisted by Rinsola Babajide.
The Falcons displayed fluid passing and sharp attacking intent throughout the match, maintaining control in the second half while keeping their Cameroonian rivals at bay.
Coach Madugu: “No Excuses – We Must Make Nigerians Happy”
Coach Justin Madugu praised the team’s composure and professionalism, noting that while the match was part of their build-up to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, more friendlies would have strengthened their preparation.
“It is still a work in progress. We would have appreciated more friendly matches, but we have to make do with what we have. We must not make excuses—we must make Nigerians happy,” Madugu said.
Ajibade, speaking after the match, thanked fans and celebrated the injury-free outing.
“It’s an honour to score twice for Nigeria. I appreciate the fantastic support from the fans,” she said.
WAFCON Preparation and Head-to-Head Record
The victory reinforces Nigeria’s historical dominance over Cameroon, with the Super Falcons now recording 15 wins in 21 meetings between the two sides.
The friendly was part of Nigeria’s final preparations for WAFCON 2024, where they have been drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana. The Falcons will be chasing a record-extending 10th title in the competition.
With Tuesday’s win, the Falcons have set a strong tone heading into the tournament.
