Rivers United players and officials of escaped serious injury after the club’s team bus was involved in a road accident on Thursday while en route to Anambra State for a President Federation Cup Round of 16 fixture.
The incident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road near Port Harcourt shortly after the Nigeria Premier Football League side departed its camp for Awka, where it is scheduled to face Nasarawa United in a crucial knockout encounter.
The accident sparked concern among fans and stakeholders in the football community, with fears initially raised about the welfare of those on board.
However, in a statement issued after the incident, Rivers United confirmed that there were no fatalities or severe injuries. The club said a number of players and officials sustained minor injuries and were receiving medical care.
According to the club, all affected individuals are in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
