In recognition of their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours and generous rewards on Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons.
Each of the 24 players will receive:
- $100,000 cash reward
- A fully furnished three-bedroom apartment
- The Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour
Members of the team’s technical crew will also receive $50,000 each for their contributions to the team’s success.
The announcement follows the Super Falcons’ dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over host nation Morocco in the WAFCON final on Saturday, securing Nigeria’s record-extending 10th continental title.
A Boost for Women’s Sports
President Tinubu’s gesture has been widely praised as a powerful endorsement of women’s sports in Nigeria and a reward for excellence, resilience, and national pride.
“The Super Falcons have not only made history but have once again proven Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football,” the president stated.
First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, warmly received the team before their official meeting with the President. This latest reward builds on past support; in 2023, First Lady Remi Tinubu also gifted each team member $10,000 for their performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
