Nigeria’s Super Falcons have booked their place at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after defeating the Benin Republic 3–1 on aggregate in their qualifying tie.
The nine-time African champions sealed their qualification following a confident performance in the return leg played on Tuesday, maintaining their dominance in the regional competition.
After earning a crucial first-leg advantage, the Falcons wrapped up the tie with a composed display that underlined their experience and tactical superiority. Goals from Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade ensured Nigeria’s passage to the continental showpiece, while Benin’s solitary effort came late in the second half.
Head coach Randy Waldrum praised his players for their discipline and teamwork, noting that the qualification is a vital step in preparing for the continental championship. “The team showed great maturity and focus. We’re now looking ahead to WAFCON 2026, where our goal remains to reclaim the trophy,” he said.
The Super Falcons will now turn their attention to fine-tuning their preparations ahead of the tournament, as they aim to extend their record as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
