In an evenly contested international friendly on Friday, Nigeria and Russia settled for a 1-1 stalemate, with both sides showing moments of skill and resilience in Moscow.
The Russians took the lead in the first half following an unfortunate moment for Nigeria. In the 27th minute, defender Semi Ajayi inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net, giving the hosts the advantage.
The Super Eagles responded with renewed purpose after the break and found their equalizer in the 71st minute. Tolu Arokodare capitalized on a mishap from the Russian goalkeeper, calmly slotting the ball home to level the score.
While Nigeria’s overall play left room for improvement, their determination and fighting spirit helped them avoid defeat in a challenging away fixture.
Statistically, the Super Eagles managed six shots, four of which were on target. Russia, on the other hand, recorded ten attempts but only forced two saves from the Nigerian goalkeeper.
The result may not have been a win, but Nigeria can take positives from their ability to recover and compete against a solid Russian side.
