Egypt has officially requested FIFA’s approval to host select group-stage matches during the 2034 World Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia. Hany Abo Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Federation, announced the request at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, highlighting Egypt’s historical football legacy as the first African nation to play in a World Cup back in 1934.
While expressing full support for Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the tournament, Abo Rida emphasized Egypt’s eagerness to contribute to the event, especially as 2034 marks the centenary of their World Cup debut.
Saudi Arabia was confirmed as the official host by the FIFA Congress on December 11, making it the third Arab nation to host the competition, following Qatar in 2022 and Morocco’s co-hosting with Spain and Portugal in 2030. If approved, Egypt’s involvement could add another layer of significance to the tournament, celebrating football’s rich history in the region.
