In a commanding display of resilience and precision, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her title at the 2025 U.S. Open—defeating American sensation Amanda Anisimova 6–3, 7–6 (7–3) in straight sets. The win, secured on September 6 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, marks Sabalenka’s second consecutive U.S. Open title and her fourth Grand Slam triumph overall.
Back-to-back U.S. Open titles: Sabalenka becomes the first woman to defend the U.S. Open title since Serena Williams accomplished the feat in 2014. Fourth major crown: She joins the elite group of players who’ve won their first four Grand Slams all on hard courts, alongside Naomi Osaka and Kim Clijsters.
Sabalenka’s triumph capped a season marred by near misses in other Grand Slams. She came agonizingly close at both the Australian and French Open finals earlier this year, only to fall short. Nevertheless, she emphasized that those experiences were invaluable lessons on the road to her New York victory.
In Saturday’s final, Sabalenka asserted early control, taking the first set 6–3 with strong baseline play. The second set was fiercely contested, culminating in a tiebreak that Sabalenka dominated 7–3.
After clinching the trophy, Sabalenka celebrated with an emotional embrace of her team and loved ones, even jumping into the stands to kiss her boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis. In her post-match speech, she credited the lessons of her prior defeats: “All the lessons were worth it,” she declared, praising her team for their unwavering belief and support.
