Barcelona winger Raphinha voiced frustration over what he sees as inconsistent refereeing in La Liga following his team’s 2-1 defeat at Girona on Monday.
The Catalan club was unhappy after Girona’s late winning goal was allowed to stand, with Barcelona claiming Jules Kounde was fouled in the lead-up. This came just days after the club publicly criticized officiating inconsistencies following a controversially disallowed goal in their 4-0 Copa del Rey loss to Atletico Madrid.
“We have a lot to improve, but not just us,” Raphinha wrote on Instagram. “It’s very difficult when the rules are different if they are for you or against you, but if we have to play against everyone to win, then fine, we will do it.”
The defeat leaves Barcelona in second place, two points behind leaders Real Madrid in the La Liga standings.
Coach Hansi Flick also commented on the situation, saying the refereeing reflected the team’s own struggles on the night at Montilivi. “The (officials) do their job, sometimes it’s not a good job, but they are on the same level as we played, so it’s maybe not a good level,” he said.
