The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that popular TikTok content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, is safe despite reports that he was kidnapped during a livestream on Wednesday night.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the development in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, stressing that investigations are underway to verify the claims.
“We are investigating the allegation, but we can confirm that the person in question, Habeeb, popularly known as Peller, is at home safe and sound.
His vehicle is also intact, all his phones and properties, nothing was missing. But we are investigating to check the veracity of that claim, and the outcome of that investigation will determine our next line of action,” Hundeyin stated.
When asked whether the incident could be classified as a kidnap, staged abduction, or a false alarm, Hundeyin maintained that the police are keeping all possibilities open.
“That is what we are investigating. All of his properties were intact, and he, too, was intact; there was no violence whatsoever,” he explained.
Peller, 20, reportedly appeared to have been seized by unidentified men while livestreaming on his way home Wednesday evening. In the video, which has since gone viral, he initially seemed to mistake the men for security operatives before being taken away.
The footage triggered panic among fans and social media users, leading to widespread calls for police intervention.
Peller gained popularity in 2021 with his comedic skits and streaming content, which quickly attracted a large following on TikTok and other platforms. He has since become one of Nigeria’s rising social media influencers.
The police have assured Nigerians that a full investigation is ongoing to determine what really happened during the incident.
