ABUJA – The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged that both his life and that of his management team are under serious threat due to the sweeping reforms he is implementing in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Ojulari made the revelation on Thursday while hosting a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its president, Comrade Festus Osifo, at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to Ojulari, his “offence” stems from his commitment to reforms aimed at reviving Nigeria’s long-neglected refineries in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu. He alleged that some “powerful elements” are working behind the scenes to unseat him.
“I’m not hiding to anybody. I’m not a politician. I will have to learn a bit more about politics, but it’s a development plan for me, right? And I’m ready to learn,” Ojulari said.
He explained that the company is considering adopting the NLNG operational model to ensure that the refineries run at full capacity once they are revived.
Responding to concerns raised by PENGASSAN on the stability of the oil sector, Ojulari stressed that, despite threats to his life and those of his management staff, he remains determined to push ahead with the reforms.
He assured the oil workers’ union that the company is committed to stabilising the sector and delivering on the government’s mandate to restore efficiency in petroleum refining and distribution.
