Meta Platforms has temporarily suspended new hires within its artificial intelligence unit after recently recruiting over 50 engineers and researchers, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
In response to the development, a company spokesperson clarified that the move is not a freeze but part of internal restructuring.
“All that’s happening here is some basic organisational planning: creating a solid structure for our new superintelligence efforts after bringing people on board and undertaking yearly budgeting and planning exercises,” the spokesperson explained in an emailed statement to Reuters.
