The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has rejected the Federal Government’s Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) loan scheme, describing it as a “perpetual financial burden” on its members. NAAT President, Ibeji Nwokoma, said the scheme would effectively force workers to take salary advances, preferring instead that the government settle all outstanding arrears.
The union’s demands include payment of three and a half months’ withheld salaries, seven months’ Occupational Hazard Allowance arrears, two months’ withheld third-party deductions, 11 months’ Responsibility Allowance arrears, 12 months’ unpaid salary increments, four months’ wage award arrears, arrears from the 2019 minimum wage for omitted members, and supplementary funds for earned allowances.
NAAT also condemned the alleged revocation of 7,000 hectares of Yakubu Gowon University land by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, calling it arbitrary and a violation of laws governing university property. The union warned that the reduction from 11,000 to 4,000 hectares would severely limit the university’s capacity for future expansion in research, academics, and student accommodation.
