Nsukka, the historic city in Enugu State, came alive on Saturday as Governor Peter Mbah laid the foundation for the 5,000-shop capacity Nsukka International Market. He assured that his administration would always consider those affected by development projects, giving priority to traders displaced from the former Ogige Market due to the Nsukka Modern Transport Terminal project.
Addressing concerns over alleged targeting of former shop owners, Mbah emphasized that the project was part of an inclusive state-wide development plan, citing similar transport terminal projects in Ogbete Holy Ghost, Abakpa Nike, and Gariki. He stressed that the Nsukka market was designed as a “one-stop shop” to boost commerce and economic activity, with completion targeted for the end of 2025.
Council Chairman Engr. Jude Asogwa lauded the governor’s projects, saying they would bring significant economic growth and empowerment to the people of Nsukka and Enugu North Zone. Other dignitaries, including lawmakers, commissioners, and PDP leaders, expressed gratitude for Mbah’s numerous interventions, highlighting projects like the N1 billion oxygen plant at the Nsukka General Hospital.
During his visit, Mbah also met with traditional rulers led by Igwe Samuel Asadu and commissioned the newly reconstructed School of Health–Stadium–GRA–Secretariat–Prisons Ring Road.
