US President Donald Trump signed his landmark tax and spending bill into law on Friday during a highly choreographed Independence Day ceremony at the White House. Surrounded by cheering Republican lawmakers and supporters, Trump used his signature Sharpie marker to finalize what he has repeatedly called the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
“That’s a good one,” he quipped as he put pen to paper, visibly pleased with the culmination of months of legislative wrangling. The bill represents a major political win for the president early in his second term, bundling sweeping tax cuts with increased military spending and expanded border security funding.
The festive signing event, timed with America’s 4 July celebrations, was designed to highlight Trump’s ability to deliver on campaign promises through legislation—not just executive orders. But while the bill is being celebrated by supporters as a triumph of governance, critics warn it could have long-term fiscal consequences, including significant increases in national debt and cuts to social programs. Still, for now, the ceremony capped a symbolic moment of unity for the Republican Party, which overcame deep internal divisions to push the package through Congress.
