In a significant shift within the Ondo State House of Assembly, two top lawmakers—Deputy Speaker Mr. Abayomi Akinruntan and Majority Leader Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi—formally stepped down from their leadership roles during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Representing Ilaje Constituency 1 and Owo Constituency 1 respectively, the two lawmakers are both affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Their resignations were submitted during a sitting chaired by Speaker Olamide Oladiji.
While addressing the House, Akinruntan pointed to internal political agreements as the driving force behind his decision.
He said the move was influenced by “political power-sharing arrangements within the state.”
Following their exits from leadership, the Assembly quickly confirmed replacements. Mr. Ololade Gbegudu, who represents Okitipupa Constituency 2, has taken up the role of Deputy Speaker. Meanwhile, the position of Majority Leader has been filled by Mr. Olatunji Oshati of Ose State Constituency.
The changes mark a notable realignment in the Assembly’s power structure, signaling possible shifts in the political landscape ahead of upcoming political cycles.
