The United States military has deployed drone technology in Nigeria to help identify and counter terrorist activities, according to officials familiar with the operation.
The use of unmanned aerial systems is aimed at enhancing surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response capabilities in areas affected by insurgent groups. The drones are expected to assist in detecting suspicious movements and disrupting planned attacks.
Military sources said the initiative is part of ongoing security cooperation between the United States and Nigerian authorities to combat terrorism and improve regional stability.
The deployment comes amid persistent threats posed by extremist groups operating in parts of northern Nigeria, with both countries seeking to strengthen efforts to curb violence and safeguard civilian populations.
Officials emphasized that the technology would support, rather than replace, local security operations, while improving coordination and effectiveness in counterterrorism missions.
