Former Nigerian international Henry Nwosu, a member of the Nigeria national football team that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations, has died at the age of 62.
Nwosu, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most talented midfielders of his generation, was part of the historic squad that secured the country’s first AFCON title on home soil in Lagos. During the tournament, he made history as the youngest player to score in the competition’s final, helping Nigeria defeat Algeria national football team 3–0.
Throughout his career, Nwosu played for several domestic clubs and later moved into coaching after retiring from professional football. His contributions to Nigerian football earned him lasting recognition among fans and former teammates.
