Authorities say the suspect in the shooting at Old Dominion University is a convicted supporter of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), prompting the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the incident as a potential act of terrorism.
Law enforcement officials said the attacker had previously been convicted for supporting the extremist group, raising concerns about possible ideological motives behind the violence. Investigators are now examining whether the suspect maintained ties to ISIS or was inspired by the group when carrying out the attack.
The FBI confirmed it is reviewing evidence, including the suspect’s background, communications and online activity, to determine whether the shooting qualifies as a terror-related incident.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and have not yet released further details about the circumstances surrounding the attack or the suspect’s actions leading up to the shooting.
