British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has reportedly established residency in Dubai, even as some foreign nationals leave the United Arab Emirates amid recent retaliatory strikes by Iran.
According to corporate filings cited by the Daily Mail, Joshua now lists Dubai as his place of residence. The move is widely believed to be driven by tax considerations, as Dubai does not impose income tax, making it an attractive destination for wealthy individuals seeking to reduce their tax liabilities.
Joshua’s business ventures are estimated to be worth about $160 million, which could have resulted in a tax bill of roughly $11 million in 2024 under UK tax rules.
Data from the Office for Budget Responsibility suggests that an additional 50,000 people—mostly British citizens—could leave the United Kingdom each year. The trend has already accelerated, with around 257,000 British nationals departing the country in the year ending December 2024, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight world champion, has family roots in Nigeria and also holds Nigerian citizenship.
