ROMULUS, Mich. — A vehicle drove into the entrance of the McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) on Friday night, crashing into a ticket counter in the check-in area, airport authorities said.
The Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) said the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. The driver was taken into custody, and the cause of the crash remains unknown as investigators work to determine what led up to the incident.
WCAA officials said emergency responders treated six people at the scene. Local reporting indicated that medical personnel evaluated multiple individuals following the impact and debris inside the terminal area.
Video and photos posted by local media showed significant damage inside the terminal, including a vehicle positioned near a check-in counter and debris scattered across the floor.
In a separate report, People cited airport police as saying the vehicle struck a ticket counter and that the driver remained in custody while the investigation continued; the outlet also reported that authorities were examining whether the driver may have suffered a mental health episode, though officials had not publicly confirmed a motive or announced charges.
Airport officials said further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
