The leadership dispute within the National Union of Road Transport Workers escalated on Tuesday as its national president, Musiliu Akinsanya, regained control of the union’s national secretariat in Abuja after it was earlier occupied by a rival faction.
Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, visited the facility following the takeover to inspect damage sustained during the standoff, with videos showing him touring affected areas and interacting with union officials.
The development comes amid a prolonged power struggle with a faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa, which had seized the secretariat based on court rulings backing its leadership claim.
Reacting, Akinsanya described the earlier occupation as “forceful,” arguing that the legal dispute remains unresolved. He stated he was not a party to the judgment cited by the opposing group and added that the decision has been appealed, with a stay of execution already obtained.
Security operatives were deployed to the premises as calm gradually returned, while Akinsanya held talks with union leaders and urged members to remain peaceful as the leadership battle continues.
