Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and the interim National Working Committee (NWC), on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Ibadan amid ongoing consultations over the party’s internal affairs and future direction.
The high-level meeting, which took place at the governor’s residence, brought together key stakeholders of the opposition party as efforts continue to strengthen unity and address challenges confronting the PDP ahead of future political engagements.
Although details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, sources within the party said the meeting focused on reconciliation, party stability, leadership issues, and strategies for repositioning the PDP following recent internal disputes and electoral setbacks.
The gathering is believed to be part of broader consultations involving influential figures within the party aimed at fostering cohesion among members and resolving lingering disagreements affecting the PDP at the national level.
Governor Makinde, regarded as one of the influential figures within the opposition party, has continued to play a significant role in discussions surrounding the PDP’s leadership structure and reform agenda. His meeting with members of the BoT and interim NWC is seen as an indication of ongoing efforts to build consensus among critical stakeholders.
Party insiders said the discussions also touched on preparations for future elections, internal restructuring, and measures to strengthen the party’s position as a major opposition platform in the country.
The meeting comes at a time when the PDP has been grappling with internal tensions in several states, including disagreements over leadership appointments, party discipline, and electoral strategy. Analysts believe the consultations in Ibadan could influence future decisions regarding the party’s direction and internal reconciliation process.
While no official communiqué was released immediately after the meeting, party leaders reportedly expressed optimism about ongoing efforts to restore unity and improve collaboration among members.
