Abuja — The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of official residences for heads of key federal courts and cleared several water and infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike said after Thursday’s Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike said Council ratified the design and construction of residences for the President of the Court of Appeal, the President of the National Industrial Court, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court. He noted that preliminary works had already been flagged off and that “consortium arrangements are in place to ensure timely delivery.”
On utilities, FEC approved new water projects to extend supply to Karu, Karshi, Orozo and Bwari, building on the Greater Abuja Water Supply programme recently inaugurated by the President. “This phase has now been flagged off and is targeted for commissioning by May next year,” Wike said.
Council also ratified the rehabilitation of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (ICC), initially awarded under emergency procurement to meet international standards ahead of the last ECOWAS Parliament inauguration. The refurbished facility has since been commissioned by the President.
In a major urban expansion push, FEC approved a fresh contract for full engineering infrastructure in Maitama II District, after terminating a dormant award issued about five years ago. The district spans over 786 hectares, much of which had been allocated without supporting roads, drainage, power and water networks. “This is a very ambitious project, and we’re determined to give it the attention required to open up the district,” the minister said.
Wike framed the approvals as part of a broader drive to professionalise the judiciary’s working conditions, improve basic services in satellite towns, and unlock stalled real-estate value through backbone infrastructure. Specific contract sums and timelines for the judicial residences and Maitama II works were not disclosed, but the minister stressed coordinated delivery and accountability among project consortia.
He added that the FCT Administration would continue leveraging phased execution and ratifications for priority assets to “ensure Abuja’s growth is matched by reliable services and modern civic facilities.”
