Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged Abuja residents to support only leaders with direct access to government power and resources, saying such connections are vital to securing development projects.
Speaking at the flag-off of the Lot 2 Water Project in the Jikoyi-Karu axis, Wike cautioned residents against politicians who cannot attract federal attention or deliver tangible results.
“Don’t waste your votes on people who cannot reach government. Support those who can go there, demand, and get results for the people,” he declared.
The minister praised former FCT Senator Philip Aduda and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman Christopher Maikalangu for leveraging their access to secure road projects and other infrastructure. He went further to announce the immediate approval of a 2km road rehabilitation in Karu Site after Aduda’s appeal.
“This is not the era of endless talking on television. It is time for leaders who can bring projects home. Consider that road done.
“The chairman has access to us. Anything he tells us, we will do. This is the only man I know. If he wins as chairman of AMAC, we will give him whatever he wants. I don’t know the party he belongs to, but I know that he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike affirmed.
Wike highlighted the Greater Abuja Water Project, which is already delivering potable water to communities including Karu, Orozo, and Kurudu. By June next year, he said, thousands of households will benefit.
“Water is life. Roads are important, but we can’t live without water. This project is a covenant between government and the people, and agreement is agreement,” the minister stressed.
FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described access to clean water as essential for health, agriculture, and industrial growth. She explained that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes delivering practical benefits to communities.
Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Yohanna Dauda, added that the Karu water scheme covers nearly 194 kilometers of pipelines and will supply safe drinking water to an estimated 334,000 residents. He noted that the project will not only expand infrastructure but also improve livelihoods, promote equity, and advance sustainable growth in FCT satellite towns.
