In a stunning realignment of Delta State’s political landscape, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, immediate past Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and key members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement came Wednesday in Asaba, following a marathon six-hour meeting at the Government House, where Senator James Manager disclosed that all major PDP figures—the governor, the former governor, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all local government chairmen, and others—had resolved to join the APC.
“We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” Manager stated, signaling a dramatic rejection of the PDP’s current trajectory. Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniagwu Charles, confirmed the collective decision, likening the PDP to a palm wine that had “lost its taste,” prompting the urgent need for change.
“In taking that decision, we concluded that leaving the PDP was necessary to build a state that every Deltan will be proud of,” Aniagwu said. He added that a formal declaration would be made on Monday, solidifying the mass defection. This development marks a pivotal turning point, with profound implications for APC’s growing influence in the South-South and the political future of Delta State.
