The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed enthusiasm over the decision of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and align with the ruling party.
In a statement released Friday via X by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party’s leadership hailed the governor’s defection as a strategic and commendable move that would benefit the state and its citizens.
“The National Working Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of His Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is delighted at the news of the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Umo Eno’s decision to join our great Party,” the statement read.
“We are confident that his thoughtful decision will inure to the greater progress of Akwa Ibom state and people.”
The APC assured Governor Eno that he would be welcomed and fully integrated into the party’s structure.
“Our great party assures the governor of its fullest cooperation and accommodation in the APC family, as we continue to grow the Party and work together towards the full realisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the good and benefit of all Nigerians.”
Governor Eno officially crossed over to the APC on Friday, stating that his decision was driven by a desire to back President Tinubu’s economic policies.
“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness, we are joining the APC from a position of strength,” he said during a press conference.
His defection follows closely on the heels of a similar move by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who also recently left the PDP for the APC.
Just two weeks ago, Governor Eno issued a directive to his appointees, urging them to either align with his new political direction or resign from their posts — a move that led to at least one commissioner stepping down, citing an unwillingness to follow the governor into the APC.
