Armed groups, including Boko Haram and bandit networks, have been responsible for the deaths of more than 190,000 people across Nigeria over the past 17 years, according to recent findings.
The report highlights the prolonged toll of insecurity, linking the fatalities to insurgency in the North-East, widespread banditry in the North-West, and other forms of violent criminal activity across the country.
It notes that the violence has not only led to significant loss of life but also triggered mass displacement, economic disruption, and deepening humanitarian challenges in affected regions.
Analysts cited in the report warn that the persistence of these attacks underscores ongoing gaps in security responses, despite multiple military operations and government interventions aimed at curbing the threats.
The findings add to growing concerns over the scale of insecurity in Nigeria, with calls for a more coordinated and sustained strategy to address the activities of militant groups and restore stability nationwide.
