Mr. Raymond Omenka Omachi has formally assumed duty as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, pledging to uphold transparency, accountability, and prudence in managing the nation’s finances.
He took over from Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, who retired after a distinguished career in the civil service. The handover ceremony was held on Friday.
Omachi praised Jafiya’s leadership and the legacy she leaves behind at the ministry.
“You have built more than a team—a team of committed directors. All the good work you have done, I will build upon. You are indeed a great leader,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Easther Walson-Jack, and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for the confidence reposed in him.
Omachi pledged to operate an open-door policy and promote collaboration and teamwork across all departments of the ministry.
In her farewell remarks, Jafiya described the Ministry of Finance as “the engine room of the economy,” stressing its central role in maintaining national stability.
“Finance has always been at the top of its affairs and must remain so, because any error or disunity within the ministry would affect the larger society,” she warned, urging staff to give full support to her successor.
Minister Wale Edun commended the outgoing Permanent Secretary for her “remarkable 35-year career,” highlighting her energy, dedication, and wisdom.
“Your capacity to serve is truly impressive, and we appreciate the sacrifices you have made,” he said, charging Omachi to emulate her exemplary work ethic as he takes on the strategic role.
