Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over what he described as a coordinated plot to destabilize Kebbi State.
In his petition, Malami alleged that certain political actors were deliberately inciting unrest in the state. He further claimed that these individuals were sponsoring acts capable of undermining peace and security in Kebbi.
Furthermore, Malami urged the NSA and IGP to urgently investigate the matter and take proactive steps to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
According to him, allowing such activities to fester could trigger political instability and threaten the safety of residents.
“What is unfolding in Kebbi State is a dangerous attempt to derail peace and unity. I strongly believe that the security agencies must step in before the situation escalates,” Malami reportedly stated in the petition.
Analysts suggest that the development may further heighten political tensions in Kebbi, especially with the state already experiencing divisions within its political class. Transitioning from internal disagreements to security concerns, the issue now appears to have drawn the attention of federal security institutions.
In addition, security experts note that Kebbi’s strategic importance in the North-West makes the alleged plot more concerning. Any destabilization, they argue, could spill into neighboring states and aggravate regional insecurity.
The NSA and IGP have not release an official statement. However, sources indicate that the petition is being reviewed and that an investigation may soon be launched.
