The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has warned Nigerians to beware of fake posters circulating on social media, saying scammers are impersonating the agency to deceive the public.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the Commission disclosed that the fraudulent materials are being shared under the name Warri Centre for Communities Law (WCLC) and illegally bear the FCCPC logo.
The FCCPC clarified that the posters were neither produced nor authorised by the Commission and described them as a clear act of impersonation and misrepresentation.
“The attached posters currently circulating under the name Warri Centre for Communities Law (WCLC) and displaying the Commission’s logo are fraudulent and unauthorised,” the statement read.
“These materials did not originate from the FCCPC and should be disregarded entirely. Any unauthorised use of the Commission’s name, logo, or insignia amounts to impersonation and misrepresentation.”
The agency urged Nigerians to ignore the posters and avoid engaging with any individuals or organisations using them to solicit money, data, or participation in purported consumer-related schemes.
The Commission further advised members of the public to rely only on its verified communication channels for accurate information, consumer education, or to lodge complaints.
It listed its official website, verified social media accounts, official email address, and complaints portal as the only legitimate platforms for interacting with the FCCPC.
The warning comes amid rising incidents of online fraud and fake advocacy groups exploiting the logos and identities of reputable agencies to gain public trust.
The FCCPC encouraged consumers to remain vigilant, verify any suspicious communication, and report cases of impersonation or fraud to the Commission and relevant law enforcement authorities.
